Force-Distance Relationships:

The force between two electrically-charged objects is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the center of one object to the center of the other object.

When the two objects both carry the same charge (positive or negative) the force is repulsion.

When the two objects carry opposite charges (one positive and one negative) the force is attraction.

Example:  If two spheres, each negatively charged, are moved from a distance of 6 cm apart to 2 cm apart, what will be the change in the force of repulsion?

(The force of repulsion will increase 9 times.)
