            One of the most significant concepts in chemistry, the mole is the foundation on which quantitative chemistry rests.  Using Avogadro’s law, it is possible to relate the mass of a substance to the number of particles (atoms or molecules) contained in that mass.  The mole allows chemists to count by weighing.
