3)  A quantity of gas has a volume of 120 dm3 when confined under a pressure of 93.3 kPa at a temperature of 20oC.  At what pressure will the volume of the gas be 30 dm3 at 20oC?

Write given information:

  •         V1  =  120 dm3                                 V2  =  30 dm3
  •         T1  =  20 oC  +  273   =  293 K        T2  =  20 oC  +  273   =  293 K
  •         P1  =  93.3 kPa                                 P2  =  _________

Write equation:       

Temperature is constant...cancel it out from equation:      

Substitute into equation:     

back

Solve for P2:   P2  =  373.2 kPa
